17/04/2017Challenge Family have released the latest top 50 Male and Female Athlete Professional Prize Money Rankings and dollars.
Week 15-
There were 2 races that counted over the weekend before Easter- WTS Gold Coast, Australia and Challenge Melbourne (Asia Pacific Championship) also in Australia.
On the Gold Coast Mario Mola (ESP) won in emphatic fashion, running away from the rest of the field to take the win over Richard Murray (RSA) and Fernando Alarza (ESP).
In the women's race, Andrea Hewitt (NZL) took control early on the run and never looked threatened for the win. In second was Ashleigh Gentle (AUS) and in third was Juri Ide (JPN).
In Melbourne not only did the athletes have to contend with stiff competition but also with extremely difficult conditions. Wind, rain and cold tested all of the athlete's limits. Sam Appleton (AUS) was able to grab a small gap coming into T2 and held this all the way to the finish line. In second was Dan Wilson (AUS) and in third, Tim Reed (AUS).
In the women's race Annabel Luxford (AUS) took control from the very start and never looked back, increasing her lead with every discipline. In second was Laura Siddall (GBR) and in third, Penny Hosken (AUS).
Big news for the coming weekend is that current World Ironman Champion, Daniela Ryf (SUI) and current Olympic Gold Medallist from Rio, Alistair Brownlee (GBR) will be lining up to race Challenge Gran Canaria being held on Saturday 22. As this will be Brownlee's first time racing over the Half Distance, all eyes will be on him to see how he goes.
