New Zealand’s Georgia Williams to continue with ORICA-SCOTT in 2018
ORICA-SCOTT announced the re-signing of world-class track rider and Olympian Georgia Williams for the 2018 season with the 24-year-old New Zealander set to return after a strong debut season with the Australian outfit.
Williams began 2017 with back-to-back second place finishes in both the time trial and the road race at the New Zealand championships before joining up with the UCI Women’s WorldTour team to play a strong supporting role in the European spring classics.
Proving herself to be a strong stage race performer Williams formed an integral part of the team’s successes at both the Emakumeen XXX. Bira in Spain and also the prestigious Giro Rosa.
“I am really excited to be re-signing with the team for 2018,” said Williams. “It has been a fantastic season this year and I am looking forward to building on the success we have achieved.”
“This season we had a strong team with a fun atmosphere within the squad and it is great to be able to continue to be a part of that.”
Sport director Gene Bates complimented Williams’ ability to transition smoothly from track to road racing and spoke of the team’s excitement to see her talent continue to develop within the ORICA-SCOTT ranks.
“We feel very privileged to have Georgia back in our team for the 2018 season,” said Bates. “It’s great to have a Kiwi within the squad to keep everyone on the straight and narrow!”
“After a large amount of time away from European road racing we were very pleased by her seamless transition back into competition this season.
“Georgia brings exceptional strength and firepower to the team and we are very excited to see her develop this even further next year.
“Georgia continues to be a very committed and loyal teammate, but we will also look to see her challenging for some results herself in 2018.”
