Organisers are praising the “fantastic spirit” and performance of more than 850 competitors at this year’s Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) Oceans ’21 event in Mt Maunganui, despite Covid-19 level changes forcing a cancellation of the final day.
Organisers of Nutri-Grain IRONMAN New Zealand have today confirmed that the event cannot take places as planned on Saturday 6 March, or on Sunday 7 March.
Brent Foster walked away with two gold medals from the Interislander Bean Rock swim on Saturday. One was for winning the race outright, the other for winning his M50-54 age group.
On 7 December 2020 it was confirmed that due to COVID-19, Rowing NZ did not intend to send athletes to compete at international regattas throughout 2021, excluding the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta and the Tokyo Olympic Games.
“Hurdlers are sprinters with attitudes,” says Grant Holloway. “Our event is sexier than just a regular fast sprint because we have barriers in our way.”
