Sell out Spring Challenge Entry Opening

30/03/2015 by Steve Knowles

Entries to the all women’s adventure race open at 7:00am on April 1st. The 9th edition of the event will be held in Wanaka for the first time. Wanaka is primarily a resort town with both summer and winter seasons. It is situated at the southern end of Lake Wanaka, adjacent to the outflow of the lake to the Clutha River. It is the gateway to Mount Aspiring National Park.

Race Director Nathan Fa’avae is expecting the entries to fill fast during the month of April with some categories filling rapidly.

“There is some good incentives to enter during April in that it’s a discounted entry and teams also get an event T-shirt. The main incentive though is to get a spot and we’re expecting this year to fill the fastest. We’ve had more pre entry questions than any other year and the event has grown significantly for the past 3-years and not showing any sign of slowing down at this stage” he says.

The event can cater for 400-teams but includes 3, 6 and 9-hour divisions. Traditionally the 6-hour veteran category is the one that fills up the fastest, often in a matter of days.

Fa’avae says the Wanaka course is looking really good.

“I was in Wanaka in January and again in March after Godzone designing the courses and I’m really happy with how its shaped up. Navigation was something I wanted to feature more in this years event and there are some areas that lend themselves really well to that. The 3-hour event will be a great introduction to Adventure Racing, the 6-hour course looks a lot of fun with a testing stage in terms of route choice and navigation, it won’t be as simple as following the team in front, the 9-hour event will be physically difficult and only for those who are after a high level of challenge”.

The Wanaka region is set up well to host events which is proven in the increasing amount of events staged there each year.

The Spring Challenge will be held on September 25th-27th.
