Tri NZ Junior Series for the 2020-2021 Season
Tri NZ announced a new Junior Series for the 2020-2021 Season. The series will be available to both U16 and U19 athletes. "The Tri NZ team and the fantastic Event Hosts across the country have been working hard on this series, which we are thrilled to bring you," said Claire Beard, CEO, Tri NZ. "We believe this series will not only encourage the development of our promising athletes and reward them with some exciting opportunities. But also bring new talent through and get more of our youth interested in triathlon. There also is the added benefit of some great prizes from our friends at 2XU and sessions with our elite coaching staff."

Blue Lake (North Island) - Blue Lake Multisport Festival - Sunday 31st January 2021 - Sprint Triathlon (non drafting)
Timaru (South Island) - South Canterbury Pacers Triathlon and Duathlon - Sunday 7th February 2021 - Sprint Triathlon (draft legal)
Kinloch (North Island) - Kinloch Triathlon Festival - Saturday 14th February 2021 - Sprint Triathlon (non drafting)
Wanaka (South Island) - Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka - Thursday 18th February 2021 - target race to be confirmed
New Plymouth (National Secondary Schools and Sprint National Champs) - Tri Taranaki Festival - Saturday 27th March 2021 - Sprint Triathlon (draft legal)

Event Experience with Development Opportunities:
As part of the Junior Series, there will also be dedicated development opportunities at each event. These will be hosted by the Regional Youth Academies. Some exciting development opportunities on offer will be:
- Athlete skills workshops
- Nutrition workshops
- Athlete and Coach workshops
- Open water skills
- Parent workshops
As these sessions are developed they will be updated on our website. We are excited about this addition to the event structure for our Junior athletes.
NZ SCHOOLS TRIATHLON
Tri NZ announced that the NZ Schools Triathlon will be held as a National event at the 2021 Tri Taranaki Festival.
The NZ Schools Triathlon was hosted in New Plymouth in 2019 and we are excited to see the return in 2021. It’s going to be a full on weekend with North Island Sprint Triathlon Champs, Junior Series and 2XU Ultimate Series Champion status's up for grabs and much more!
Tri Taranaki Event Director, Shanelle Barrett commented, "The Taranaki region thoroughly enjoyed hosting the Schools event in 2019 and we are excited to have it back again in 2021. The Tri Taranaki Festival is all about triathlon for all levels of racing and we know the school's participants will enjoy racing on the blue carpet and then watching their heroes as they race in the ITU Triathlon World Cup."
