Vibe of adventure in Taupo
Only a short sleep away, the event kicks off for long-course competitors at 5.30am Saturday, with waves of medium- and short-course teams following over several hours. There’s a full field.
A carefully planned course with fun diversity is a theme. Mountain biking, trekking, SUP and kayaking plus a couple of mystery activities will all challenge long course teams.
It’s been a positive afternoon already — great vibe — with the event Mihi Whakatau from Ngati Tuwharetoa, welcoming a large number of participants. Whai Ora smoothies were on offer for taste testing and met with an enthusiastic response.
Team race packs were so generous they weren’t packs but rather large cardboard boxes filled to the brim.
"I just want these women to have a whole lot of fun with their friends,” commented event manager and race director Neil Gellatly.
“I want them to go through highs and challenges and laughter. Really this event is about being fit and healthy. It's about well-being and having a balanced lifestyle.”
Should be a great day of adventure tomorrow.
