If you've never been up to the Whangarei Heads you're missing out on a truly delightful part of the country! Majestic peaks, sweeping beaches, and views for days make it just THE perfect setting for an exceptional event.

The Wild Kiwi will see individuals & teams challenged to an epic multi-sport event (10km kayak/24km MTB/14km run), 15km or 8km run/walk, and an extra tough half marathon.

Offering a stunning multi-sport course and one of the toughest half marathons in New Zealand, this year we are seeing a wide range of athletes entering - from newbies wanting a personal challenge, to athletes that will vie for the overall win.

“Thank you so much for a great experience in the Wild Kiwi run 2017. We planned our vacation to New Zealand around this run and were not disappointed! We both wanted to say THANK YOU to yourselves and the volunteers. 1000+ steps, beautiful views, well organised and free beer... WE LOVED THIS RACE!!! — Robin and Joerg Hermans, Harvard, Massachusetts USA

While only in its third year, the race is already a favourite amongst previous competitors, as the Wild Kiwi hasn’t yet failed to challenge and delight participants. Well off the beaten track, you’ll wonder why you haven’t been to the Whangarei Heads before …and you’ll definitely want to come back!

The Wild Kiwi has not only raised the profile of the the little patch of paradise that is the Whangarei Heads - but also brought lots of attention to the Bream Head Trust’s amazing conservation efforts. With two full-time rangers patrolling the area, the Trust has provided a safe space for kiwi and other native wildlife to thrive - including species of gecko and snail that only live in this area!
