Abel Tasman Coastal Classic

Canterbury’s Flavio Vianna has ‘flouted’ standing atop of the podium in Nelson’s Abel Tasman Coastal Classic trail run and on Saturday he reached his ambition.  ‘Nemesis’ Vajin Armstrong has principally got in his way but holding a 3 minute advantage over him at Torrent Bay Vianna maintained the margin to win comfortably. Nelson’s Darren Jones followed just over 6 minutes adrift.

It’s been ‘easier’ however for Kirsten Wright (Canterbury) as she threepeated with another solid performance.  Her fellow Canterbury ‘chasers’ are getting  closer however but she still had 3 minutes to play with before Annabelle Bramwell and Abby Nattrass crossed the Marahau finishline.

Chris Gates (Nelson) achieved his 27th consecutive finish making him the sole ‘survivor’ with Wellington’s Owen Rouse back to knock over number 26.

All 279 starters completed the route which is not very often accomplished in an equal to marathon like footrace.

Next up for Nelson Events is the Alpine Lodge Loop the Lake on November 14th.  This ideal introduction to trailrunning has a few gaps left for the 24km  circuit of Lake Rotoiti, Nelson Lakes.
